Map overview of our 15 Day Southern Africa Signature Safari

Experience Southern Africa's best wildlife, landscape, scenery, waterfalls, rivers, beaches, cities, cultures, and game reserves on this flexible trip. The luxury level can be adjusted to suit your budget, ranging from three-star to five-star accommodation options.

Days 1 to 3

Arriving the night before, or on an early morning flight to Johannesburg, board a connecting two-hour flight to Victoria Falls, for a two-night stay at this magnificent marvel of nature. We arrange return airport transfers and accommodation on a bed-and-breakfast basis.

A variety of guided day tours and activities can be arranged as optional extras, or you can explore the falls on your own, at your own pace.

Days 3 to 5

A two-hour road transfer brings you to the Chobe National Park in Botswana. Spend two nights at a luxury lodge on the banks of the Chobe River.

Enjoy some of the best boat-based game viewing in the world during the dry season, as well as open-vehicle game drives in game-rich Chobe National Park.

Day 5

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport. Fly back to Johannesburg from Kasane, followed by a two-hour connecting flight to Cape Town, South Africa's Mother City. Alternatively, we can arrange a road transfer back to Victoria Falls Airport, to board a direct flight to Cape Town.

Arrive in Cape Town in the evening. We transfer you to your hotel at or near the famous Cape Town Waterfront.

Days 6 to 8

Spend three nights and two full days in Cape Town, either on a self-drive basis or on a fully guided basis, and take in the highlights of this scenic and popular tourist city on the slopes of Table Mountain.

A visit to Cape Point is recommended and this scenic day tour also includes a visit to the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Cape Point is where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans are said to meet.

Like Victoria Falls, Cape Town offers so much to see and do that you will have to be selective about how to best spend your available time. Have a look at our Cape Town Travel Guide for more information on what Cape Town offers, and keep in mind that this trip idea is flexible - you can spend more days in Cape Town if time and budget allow.

Days 8 to 10

On Day 8, collect your rental car and head east toward Knysna. Spend three nights exploring the beaches, mountains, caves, forests, and lakes of the picturesque Garden Route along the southern coast of South Africa.

This leg of the tour can be done on a self-drive basis in a rental car if you wish to keep costs down, or we can arrange a vehicle and guide to take you. Highlights include Cape Agulhas, the southern-most tip of Africa, the Cango Caves near Oudtshoorn, an optional lagoon cruise on the Knysna estuary, a walk through the Tsitsikamma forest to see the giant yellowwood trees, and various other activities.

Day 10

After spending a final morning enjoying the scenery of the Garden Route, make your way to George (one hour from Knysna) or Port Elizabeth (about two and a half hours) for a late afternoon flight to Johannesburg, where you will overnight at one of the hotels near OR Tambo International Airport.

Whether you fly from George or Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha) will depend on what you want to see that morning. If you're planning to visit Oudtshoorn for the day, to see the Cango caves and perhaps an ostrich farm, we recommend booking a late afternoon flight from George Airport. If you're planning to drive east via the Crags to visit Tsitsikamma and perhaps Storms River Mouth, you are better off flying from Port Elizabeth late afternoon.

Overnight at an airport hotel in Johannesburg, ready to depart on safari the next morning.

Days 11 to 13

You'll be met early in the morning at the airport or nearby hotel by our tour guide. Depart for the world-famous Kruger National Park and start your game drive as we enter its gates during the early afternoon.

You'll spend two nights on safari in the southern part of Kruger, which is considered the best area for game viewing. All game drives are conducted by an experienced, English-speaking guide, using an open safari vehicle. Breakfasts, dinners, entrance fees, and game drives are all included in the tour price.

Accommodation in Kruger is in basic, comfortable bungalows with air-conditioning and a small en-suite bathroom. If budget allows, we can upgrade you to a luxury lodge.

Days 13 and 14

At lunchtime on Day 13, we make our way to one of the private game reserves adjacent to Kruger, such as the Klaserie, Timbavati or, if budget allows, the famous Sabi Sand Game Reserve.

Only the luxury option includes the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The budget and mid-range options include a less expensive private reserve.

We end this signature safari in style, with two nights at a private game lodge in the Greater Kruger Park where all meals and game drives are included in the cost, and the open land rovers are permitted to go off-road to get closer to the animals.

Day 15

After a final early morning game drive and breakfast, it is time to check out and make your way back to the closest airport. This safari ends either in Hoedspruit or in Nelspruit (depending on the choice of private game reserve for the last two nights).

From here you can catch a one-hour flight back to Johannesburg, in time to connect with an evening flight back home. Upon request, we can also arrange a six-hour road transfer back to Johannesburg on the last day to keep costs down – but we do recommend flying.

Customise this trip

Our 15 Day Southern Africa Signature Safari is a trip idea, not a fixed itinerary. The time frame of 15 days is the shortest realistic timespan in which to see all the above destinations. The Cape Town and Garden Route legs are intended to show you the highlights only. The time frame is too short to allow you to see everything.

If time and budget allow, you can spend more time at any of the destinations along the way. Or you can leave out a destination if time and budget are limited. We can adjust this itinerary to suit your preferences.

We highly recommend spending one or more extra nights at Cape Town and perhaps along the Garden Route. You can also spend more time on safari, or add a night to the Kruger safari to see the scenic Panorama Route.

Approximate cost

The estimated rates below are based on the itinerary as outlined here, excluding local flights, but including:

  • accommodation,
  • airport transfers,
  • meals as specified,
  • game drives, and
  • a rental car from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha).

Remember that you do not have to do the Cape Town and Garden Route legs by driving yourself around in a rental car. That would be the most affordable option, but we can also arrange a fully guided trip for you.

Please send us an enquiry so we can work out a customised quote for you. As always, a quote or proposal from us is clear, transparent, never more expensive than the total cost of booking everything directly and there are never any hidden fees or surprise costs on a Wild Wings trip. Not even a credit card surcharge.
