7 Day Best of Kwando Botswana Safari

The Kwando safari circuit is among Botswana's top value-for-money options. Beyond their camps in Nxai Pan and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Kwando boasts two vast private concession areas: the Kwara concession on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta and the original Kwando concession along the Kwando River in the far north. These areas are prime for game viewing and are well-known for regular sightings of wild dogs.

This seven-day safari includes six nights at two or three of Kwando's top camps – Splash Camp in the Okavango Delta, and Lebala Camp and Lagoon Camp on the edge of the Kwando River. Choose between spending two nights at each camp or a more relaxed itinerary with three nights at Splash followed by three nights at Lagoon Camp (or vice versa).

The safari pricing includes local inter-lodge flights, with Maun as the start and endpoint. Alternatively, you can fly in or out of Kasane, perfect for combining this safari with a visit to Victoria Falls.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Splash Camp

Arrive in Maun, where a representative will assist with your short, scenic flight to Splash Camp in the Okavango Delta. Splash Camp is one of our favourite safari camps, offering exceptional game-viewing opportunities in the private Kwara concession in the northern reaches of the delta.

Enjoy various activities, including open-vehicle game drives, bush walks, mokoro trips, boat cruises, and fishing. Splash Camp represents the best of the Okavango Delta at a reasonable price compared to other top lodges. Spend three nights at Splash.

Day 2 & Day 3: Exploring the Kwara Concession

Immerse yourself in the daily safari experience at Splash Camp. Each day includes morning and afternoon activities tailored to your preferences. After sundowners, embark on a night drive to spot nocturnal animals before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 4: Transfer to Lagoon Camp

After an early morning activity and breakfast, transfer to the Kwara Airstrip for your flight to Lagoon Camp in the north of Botswana's sprawling Kwando concession. Check-in and enjoy a light lunch before an afternoon game drive or boat cruise.

Lagoon Camp offers stunning views and luxury tented accommodation along the Kwando River. Enjoy boat cruises and 4x4 game drives through pristine wilderness known for its predator sightings, especially African wild dogs.

Days 5 & Day 6: Adventures at Lagoon Camp

Experience morning and afternoon game drives with expert guides. Early morning drives offer the best chances to see wildlife, while afternoon activities include action-packed drives or relaxed sunset cruises on the Kwando River, featuring elephants, hippos, and more.

The northern reaches of the Kwando concession are well-known for large herds of elephants, buffalo and other big game, which attracts predators such as lions, leopards, African wild dogs and hyenas.

Day 7: Final Safari and Departure

After a final early morning game drive, check out and board your flight back to Maun (or Kasane) for your onward flight.

Alternatively, spend two nights at Splash Camp, two nights at Lagoon Camp and two nights at Lebala Camp on the floodplains of the Kwando River. Lebala is an intimate safari camp that offers walking safaris and game drives.
