More About Hippo Hollow Country Estate
Hippo Hollow is a big resort with a slight 'Out of Africa' feel to it and is a good base from which to explore the spectacular Panoramic Route which include Pilgrims Rest, Bourkes Luck Potholes, God's Window and the Blyde River Canyon as well as many fantastic waterfalls. Other nearby attractions include Elephant Whispers, Shangana Cultural Village, Sudwala caves, Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre and Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre.
Hippo Hollow is a thatched lodge with 18 chalets (sleeping 4), 19 chalets (sleeping 2), and 54 twin rooms overlooking either the picturesque gardens or the mighty Sabie River. All rooms and chalets are tastefully decorated and the chalets have wooden decks with a gas barbecue and kitchen facilities for those who wish to self-cater. The lodge has two swimming pools, a la Carte restaurant, conference facilities for up to 60 delegates and a ladies bar.
Breakfast is superb and served buffet-style, with a large choice of freshly prepared dishes. The excellent a la carte restaurant has a spectacular setting overlooking the Sabi River. Look out for Kingfishers and other beautiful water birds as well as hippos grazing on the lawns!
For arts and craft lovers there is a well-stocked curio shop on the premises which includes a selection of local art. A range of activities available in close vicinity to the lodge includes open vehicle game drives in the Kruger National Park and surrounding private game reserves, river rafting, horse riding, fishing, hiking, golfing, elephant back safaris and scenic helicopter flights. Hippo Hollow Country Estate is an excellent choice if you are looking for an affordable base from which to explore the Panorama Route and Kruger National Park, but do not wish to stay inside the Kruger Park.
