More About Chiefs Camp

Chiefs Camp boasts 12 luxury thatched safari suites, each with en-suite facilities including an indoor and outdoor shower. For your comfort, each pavilion is equipped with a mosquito net, two wardrobes, a writing desk, book shelf and fully-stocked mini bar. There are overhead fans, a hairdryer, in-room safe and emergency intercom to reception. One is able to relax on the deck chairs or hammock and enjoy the views from each unit's private deck.

This area is known as the "predator capital of Africa" and game viewing is rewarding all year round. Chiefs Island is the largest unspoilt land mass in the Okavango Delta and the only place in Botswana where rhinos can be found in the wild. Chiefs Camp offers game drives on open 4x4 Land Cruisers, led by professional guides in the early morning or late afternoon. No night drives are permitted since the area falls within the Moremi Game Reserve. When water levels are high between April and September, mokoro (dug-out canoes) excursions are offered through the maze of surrounding waterways.

Chiefs Camp main lodge, built into the existing landscape, is split into two levels and offers expansive views over the northern floodplain. The main lodge houses the reception, the dining area, bar, curio shop and library. There is a swimming pool on the lower level, with recliners overlooking the floodplains. To add that extra element of luxury, Chiefs Camp offers a range of beauty treatments by an experienced resident therapist. For those who need to stay in touch with the rest of the world during their safari, Chiefs Camp has wireless satellite internet access.

Chiefs Camp is one of the top-rated safari lodges in Botswana, in one of the best game viewing areas. During our visit there we saw an encredible array of wildlife, enjoyed great hosting and world-class cuisine. We can confidently recommend Chiefs. The camp is accessed by a 30 minute flight from Maun in a light aircraft.

Okavango Delta

Okavango banner

The Okavango Delta in Botswana - there are few wild places on earth that offer the same unique combination of spectacular wildlife, beautiful scenery, palm-fringed waterways, remote islands and vast unspoilt wilderness. The Okavango swamps are formed by the annual flooding of the Okavango river, which opens into a vast life-giving oasis in Botswana's desert. The delta attracts huge numbers of wildlife due to the permanent water available here.

Our Google map of Botswana allows you to zoom in on a particular area. Botswana is a huge country, and known for its vast game reserves. The best game viewing areas are in the north of the country, and include the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Chobe National Park, and the Kwando and Linyanti regions. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is also drawing more and more tourists lately. Most visitors fly to Maun, via Gaborone or Johannesburg. Alternatively, you can fly to Victoria Falls or Livingstone and transfer from there to Kasane. Click on any game reserve to see a description of that reserve.
