Selous Game Reserve is the largest protected area in Africa and offers visitors unspoilt African bush, populated with an abundance of game. Due to its size, and the fact that it hasn't been overrun with accommodation options, safaris to Selous allow visitors to truly experience the vastness and solitude of the bush; uncrowded and unhurried.
Covering over 45,000 km², Selous Game Reserve is divided into the northern area, above the magnificent Rufiji River. Here, the wetlands and waterways are reserved for photographic safaris while the southern area has hunting concessions. The area has been protected since the late 1800s, ensuring that the landscape and wide range of game that call it home have remained unspoilt.
Tours to Selous Game Reserve usually include a range of activities and wonderful game drives. Boating safaris along the waterways of the Rufiji River offer you incredible animal sightings as they come down to drink on the river banks, warily though, between the crocodiles and hippos! Walking safaris give you an opportunity to experience the sights, sounds and aromas of the bush, up close and personal. Fly-camping is also offered, for a true wild camping experience.
