Completed in 2019, RockFig Safari Lodge is a luxury safari lodge in the Timbavati Game Reserve that is part of the Greater Kruger, and it is the perfect fit for safari guests looking for an intimate and unhurried bush escape.

Six thatched, chalet-style luxury suites

RockFig has six chalet-style luxury suites that accommodate a maximum of 12 adults and four children in king or twin beds, depending on the guests' preferences. All suites have mosquito nets, air conditioning and a private verandah overlooking the bush. The large en-suite bathrooms have bathtubs, a spacious indoor shower and a double outdoor shower.

Contemporary main lodge area

The spacious and airy main lodge area has many pieces of commissioned furniture from local artisans. There's an open-plan dining room, a comfortable, contemporary indoor lounge and a bar area. Guests can also take meals in the shade on the outdoor dining deck, relax outside in the covered bush-facing guest lounge and gather around the outdoor firepit at night. The waterhole-facing swimming pool is frequented by elephants almost daily, usually during the middle of the day.

A honeymoon couple on safari is joined at the RockFig swimming pool by a herd of thirsty elephants.

Out on game drives and bush walks

RockFig Safari Lodge guests can all enjoy a window seat on their Big Five game drives with just four people per open safari vehicle. Families with children get their own private safari vehicle and can arrange with their safari guide to start their game drive later and return to the lodge earlier. RockFig game drives in the Timbavati are conducted by highly experienced safari guides and trackers. Guests fourteen years of age and older who want to experience the smaller details of the wild can go on a guided walking safari.

We loved the spacious, contemporary feel of RockFig Safari Lodge, and our close encounter with elephants who came to drink water from the swimming pool while we were inside was a definite highlight. A guided safari in Kruger Park (using the national park camps) is quite different to a safari at a private game lodge. Both have their advantages. This trip idea combines two nights in Kruger, followed by two nights at a private game lodge for you to experience the best of both worlds. All game drives in open vehicles with expert and knowledgeable guides.
