Better Than We Ever Could Have Imagined
From Emily, UK, travelled with us during May 2018
A safari has always been one of the things my fiance and I have been desperate to do but we were a bit unsure about self-driving Kruger on our first time. I found Wild Wings on trip advisor and after reading the great reviews decided to enquire to see what they offered. We had an immediate reply from Madi who put us together a great itinerary for 3 nights in Kruger and 3 nights at a Private Lodge with a tour of the Panorama Route on the way back.
All I can say is that the trip was better than we could ever have imagined. We were picked up from Kruger Airport by Nicky for our Kruger Safari and as soon as we got through the gate we were spotting wildlife! Nicky was absolutely fabulous and we could not have imagined having a better guide for our trip - she got us great viewing spots, amazing sightings, answered all our questions and cooked us amazing breakfasts and dinners every day! My fiance is a keen birder and when Nicky found this out she went out of her way to help him identify all the birds we were seeing and get some great bird sightings too. We were really sad when Nicky dropped us at the main gate as we'd had such an amazing 4 days we didn't want to leave. We really couldn't have asked for more from Nicky, she made this one of the best things we had both ever done.
Our transfers to the Gomo Gomo Lodge was comfortable and prompt and the lodge and staff were great but we discovered that the experience within Kruger and staying at the bushcamps was more our cup of tea and so it could never beat the amazing first 4 days of our Safari.
The company that Wild Wings used for our 2-day tour of the Panorama Route was also excellent. We weren't sure what to expect as I'd just asked Madi to suggest something to add onto the end of our trip as we had 2 days spare before flying home but again this tour exceeded our expectations and we had a great time with Gavin see all the sights.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Wild Wings to my friends and family and would happily use them again in the future. We're already dreaming about our next trip...!
Back after a fantastic safari
From Willem, Netherlands, travelled with us during May 2018
Dear Madi, Thanks indeed, and for all the last-minute organising. We just came back after a fantastic safari. Saw lots of animals, including lions and leopards (both with cubs) today and had an excellent time with Andy, who was both very knowledgeable as well as pleasant company.
We all look back on a great trip.
A Fantastic Experience
From Eddie & Sue, UK, travelled with us during May 2018
Hi Clare, Just at airport for flight back to UK - wanted to let you know that Sue and I had a fantastic experience. Simon was great as I'm sure you know - hoping to come back probably Oct/Nov 2019 for the same safari but obviously a different season.
Thanks for all your efforts.
We Had A Fantastic Time
From Anne-Marie, Canada, travelled with us during May 2018
Hi Cathari, I just wanted to say thank you so much for organizing our safari. We had a fantastic time, and everything went off without a hitch. It was truly impressive how all the pickups/transfers etc. were done so efficiently. All the hotels were lovely. Simon was a fantastic guide.
Thanks again for helping us explore your delightful country.
There Wasn't Even The Slightest Hiccup
From Jim & Toni, USA, travelled with us during April 2018
Hi Gavin, We want to thank you for all of the arrangements you made for us. All of the details were spot on and there wasn’t even the slightest hiccup during our stay. All of our transfers with Gap were perfect. We had Vusi as our driver for all three transfers and he was great. We enjoyed both Rhino Post and Elephant Plains very much. We enjoyed the game drives at both equally. We now appreciate the difference between going off-road at the private reserves and staying on the roads at Kruger. The games viewing at both was spectacular.
We are now considering a future safari - probably in Botswana (and Victoria Falls). The earliest would be in 2020, but nothing is firm at this point. We will contact Wild Wings Safaris when we’re ready to commit.
Here are a couple of pictures from our trip. I bought a new lens prior to the trip and Toni gave me a little grief about spending the money, but all was forgiven when she saw the photos...
We would definitely book again.
From Michele, USA, travelled with us during April 2018
Hi Mike, Absolutely perfect! The best trip we've experienced. Simon, our guide, was a gem possessing an outstanding blend of knowledge and personality. The accommodations were comfortable with nice rooms. Chef John provided impressive culinary experiences and was extremely talented in preparing traditional South African dishes accompanied with historical background of the meals. Overall, great culinary experience.
Thank you, Simon. You're the greatest! All together it was a remarkably unforgettable experience - very friendly staff and excellent game drives. We would definitely book again. A perfect stay and safari experience!
Our trip of a lifetime!
From Mandy, USA, travelled with us during April 2018
Hi, Madi, Just a quick note to thank you for arranging this wonderful tour for us. Everything went just as planned and all the accommodations and activities were top notch.
We are back safe and sound in the USA now and can’t believe that just days ago we were watching elephants and lions in Kruger. Nicky was great as our guide, as well as being a skilled driver and excellent cook. We learned a lot and her enthusiasm was contagious.
Thanks again for all your help and advice in making this African Safari our trip of a lifetime!
It Was A Five-Star Experience!
From Clara, USA, travelled with us during April 2018
The trip was a blast! Your suggestion of spending two days in Kruger Park and two days in a private reserve was perfect. We could see the vast landscape and the diverse animals in the Kruger Park, and got very close and personal with the animals at the private reserve. The bush walk at the private reserve was really enjoyable.
Nicky's very knowledgeable, professional and enthusiastic in sharing her knowledge and love of the park. It's amazing how sharp her eyes were spotting animals. She knows very well not just on the large animals, but also the birds and plants. I learned a lot from her. John the chef cooked very delicious meals for us, and I really enjoyed his stories about the food and the customs.
George and Solly at the private game reserve were also very knowledgeable about the animals. It's amazing to see how Solly the tracker could track the animals based on their footprints, and his sharp eyes at night. They really understand the animal behaviors and could get to the animals within feet, yet we felt completely safe.
The transportation between Victoria Falls, Cape Town and Kruger Park was very punctual and the drivers were very friendly. Last but not least, Clare, you've been so helpful and responsive in planning our trip and answering all of our questions. Overall, it was a five-star experience! Thanks for all your help.
This Was The Best Trip Ever!
From Donna & Family, USA, travelled with us during April 2018
Hi Madi, My husband and I have done much overseas traveling both by our selves and with our family. According to our kids and their families, this was the best trip ever! And we have had some amazing trips (Galapagos, Machu Pichu, Antarctica).
You, Madi, were quick with responses to any questions I asked and made scheduling everything incredibly easy. Your suggestion of AfricaSky was perfect for us. We had a wonderful stay there and would definitely go back. I can't thank you enough for all you did to make this such a memorable trip.
I don't know how you arranged it, but you must have given us the best guide in your crew. Simon's knowledge of the animals, the terrain, the history was everything we could have hoped for and more! There wasn't a question we asked him that he didn't know the answer. He was patient, kind and fun. He eagerly took care of our needs, be they transport, shopping, food, or anything else we requested. We couldn't stop talking about the trip the whole way home and still are texting each other pics and memories during the day. We miss being there and never knowing what might be around the next bend in the road. A very special thank you goes to Simon for his part in our wonderful adventure.
Our rating of the trip, and we are not easy graders by any means, is an A+ (5 stars for sure!) We would not change a thing! Thanks again, for all of your help.
It Truly Was A Trip Of A Lifetime
From Peter & Cindy, USA, travelled with us during April 2018
Hi Madi, We had a wonderful time on the Safari, and it truly was a trip of a lifetime. We really enjoyed Nikki's expertise, knowledge and friendly demeanor. She made our trip very memorable and we can't thank her enough for the amazing experiences we encountered on each and every game drive. The diverse animal viewings greatly exceeded our expectations, and Nikki went out of her way to find all of our "wish list" animals. You'd think spending 8+ hours a day in a vehicle would be daunting, but to be honest we could have done more - it was just that great! I'm already dreaming of our next Safari adventure!!
The accommodations at Skukuza were as expected. We were, however, surprised with how large the bungalows turned out to be (based on photos that are available online) and found the rest camp to be very cozy. We did have a few issues with the rest camp (i.e. lack of water for a day/ mice droppings on the bed when we came back on evening) however we understand these circumstances are certainly out of Wild Wings' control, and for the price point of the Safari, we couldn't imagine staying in anything more "upscale."
As for the food, we were pleasantly surprised! We sort of expected Nikki to do the meal prep based on reviews and the description of the Safari, but we were happy to hear that we had a caterer preparing the meals instead (not that we wouldn't trust Nikki to cook for us, but after doing 2 game drives/day + cooking, I'd feel very guilty letting her do that all on her own!) Also, having a caterer allowed the meals to be prepped, and table set while we were on the drive and basically ready for us when we got back. This was really nice since most of us were relying on the meals that were provided, and therefore pretty hungry after each drive.
We really enjoyed all of the meals from a taste and quality perspective, and of course learning a bit about the history of each dish was an added perk. Mealtime also allowed the group to talk casually and get to know each other better. Our company on the Safari was great, and very diverse! I'm glad we had the time to chat and swap travel stories.
As for a recommendation - some of us ended up going on a Camp Sponsored Night drive. To be honest it was fairly underwhelming and partially because we were spoiled by Nikki's Guide skills! I would almost not recommend the camp sponsored night drives in the future, unless it was with a guide that Wild Wings knows and/or sanctions. Every other part of the experience was either as expected or better! Knowing what to expect was really helpful and all of our plans were clearly laid out which made it very stress-free for us. We will always look back on this trip with the fondest of memories.
Thanks again to you and Nikki for the amazing trip, and we hope to be back on Safari soon!
Was Truly Magical
From Tom, USA, travelled with us during March 2018
Hi Mariana, I wanted to send you a note to tell you how much we enjoyed our visit to Africa and, in particular, our stay at Kambaku River Sands. As you know, we were part of a 14-day tour that took us to Cape Town, Cape Point, Table Mountain, Stellenbosch, Hermanus, Victoria Falls, and Chobe. That tour exceeded our expectations, and we could have returned home happy after that trip. But our stay at Kambaku for those last four days was truly magical. Everything -- from the grounds, the extraordinary luxury of the units, the food, the warmth and hospitality of the staff, the guides, the game viewing experiences (including the elephants that came right up to drink out of our swimming pool!)-- was beyond what we could have imagined. The three of us could have stayed for a month, and we were sad to have to leave to re-enter the real world.
When the planning for this trip began last October, I was not certain my wife would be willing to go. It was not like any vacation we had ever taken. Now she is a passionate advocate for South Africa and especially Kambaku River Sands. I am confident that we will return there in the coming years.
So I wanted to thank you for everything you did to make this trip a reality – from your initial encouragement, to identifying such a spectacular destination, to seeing that our arrangements, especially in linking up with our trip, went so smoothly. We are truly grateful for your help and support.
Can't say enough good things
From Kurt & Charlotte, USA, travelled with us during March 2018
Hi Madi! We are home today and wanted to thank you for all of your arrangements. All went so smoothly. Most important is we want to thank you for your choices of the Kambaku Safari Lodge and Masuwe Lodge. Both were perfect for the four of us and the length of stay at each was just right (don't recommend shorter stays at either place).
Can't say enough good things about both lodge accommodations and lodge-related touring experiences. We were told at the Masuwe Lodge that we were the first paying American guests they've had since reopening last year. Wow were we treated well! Do not, for a moment, hesitate to recommend the Masuwe Lodge to any and all of your American clients - they will love it! I do suggest you inform anyone you send there that, while they have applied for a credit card scanner, they don't accept credit cards at this time. That will change, and they don't charge for much anyway (we reimbursed the lodge for a national park entrance fee and I bought a "Masuwe safari shirt").
So,kudos to you and Wild Wings Safari for perfect arrangements. If given the opportunity we will recommend WWS with superlatives.
