The Outpost in the Makuleke is located in an unfenced area of the Kruger called the Pafuri Triangle. This area of land in the far north of South Africa is marked by the confluence of the Limpopo River to the north and the Luvuhu River to the south which forms a natural choke point for game. It's well-known for its rich biodiversity, elephant sightings, spectacular birdlife and distinct ecology.
Award-winning architecture
The Outpost can accommodate 24 guests in 11 self-contained contemporary Luxury Suites and one Honeymoon Suite. All 12 standalone king-sized bed Suites are open plan en-suite. Each Luxury Suite's lounge opens onto a private outdoor terrace with double daybeds.
Some Suites are river facing and others are bush facing, and all of them offer 180˚ views of pure African bushveld. On clear days, some guests can see as far as Mozambique from their stone bathtub or open shower.
Main building
Guests can access The Outpost's main building over the connecting Zimbabwean teak walkway. The lounge and dining areas, spacious and flooded with light from the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, offer spectacular vistas of Luvuvhu River Valley.
The same sweeping view can also be enjoyed from the lap pool on the swimming pool deck which the main building leads onto. The main dining area is separated from the wine cellar by a glass partition. The cellar offers some excellent South African wines.
Breakfast and lunch are served in the main building, and dinner is enjoyed al fresco on the pool deck or in the intimate courtyard. Guests can also request a picnic lunch if they are out on safari. The bush picnic is served under 1,400-year-old Baobab trees or on the banks of the Luvuvhu River.
