Staying connected in Namibia: Mobile networks, WiFi & more
While Namibia is a remote and sparsely populated country, staying connected is possible — with a bit of planning. Here's what you need to know about mobile coverage, SIM cards, WiFi access and electrical adaptors when travelling through Namibia.
Mobile Network Coverage in Namibia
- International roaming is expensive, so we recommend purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival
- SIM cards are widely available at fuel stations, shops, and supermarkets
- You can top up with credit as needed and activate mobile data for internet access
- MTC (Mobile Telecommunications Company) offers the best nationwide coverage
- Be aware that remote regions, including many safari camps, have limited or no signal
If you require constant connectivity in off-grid areas, ask us where you can rent a satellite phone.
Namibia's country code is +264. Remember to enable international dialling if calling abroad.
WiFi Access in Namibia
- Most safari lodges and guesthouses offer WiFi in the main areas or reception
- Connections can be slow or intermittent, especially in remote areas
- WiFi is not always available in guest rooms, and bandwidth is limited — plan accordingly if you need to upload large files or video call
Electrical Adaptors for Namibia
- Namibia uses Type D and M plugs, with three round pins (as in South Africa)
- Occasionally, you'll also encounter Type C and N plugs (two round pins)
- The standard voltage is 220V
- We recommend bringing a Type D universal adaptor, which you can also buy in Windhoek if needed
