More about this accommodation
Savute Safari Lodge accommodates 24 guests in 12 elegantly-furnished thatch and glass chalets, each featuring a combined lounge and bedroom area, with en-suite facilities, overhead fan and a private viewing deck. The expansive glass sliding doors amplify the beauty of the panoramic views from each chalet. The doorways are covered by insect screens, and the beds by mosquito netting.
All activities at Savute Safari Lodge are led by professional resident guides. Game drives are conducted on open 4x4 safari vehicles for the best game viewing, and drives within the Savute area and to the Savute marsh are very rewarding. The second biggest summer zebra migration can be witnessed at Savute (second only to the famous Masai Mara migration). Other diverse species include elephant, lions, leopards and numerous antelope.
A visit to the ancient San rock paintings in the Gubatsa Hills can be arranged on request. Birding is great all year round, but the prime months to visit are during the rainy season when the migrant birds increase Savute's resident population of over 300 species. For game viewing, the best time is the dry months between May and October, when the Savute channel is the only source of water for miles and, even in the driest times, the waterholes draw a variety of wildlife to the area.
The main feature of the lodge is the elegant thatch and timber building that overlooks the beautiful Savute channel and which houses the lounge, library and cocktail bar. A large viewing deck provides the ideal space to observe the wildlife that flock to the waterhole.
There is a swimming pool on a raised wooden deck and an al fresco dining area. Brunch and dinner are usually served on the viewing deck or by soft candlelight in the dining room. Evenings can be enjoyed, cocktail in hand, around the fireside as you soak up the last rays of the African sun.
