Land- and Water-Based Game Viewing and Activities

All activities at Savute Safari Lodge in Chobe National Park are led by professional resident guides. Game drives are conducted on open 4x4 safari vehicles for the best game viewing. Drives within the Savute area and to the Savute Marsh are always rewarding. The second-biggest summer zebra migration can be witnessed at Savute (second only to the famous Masai Mara migration). Other diverse species include elephant, lion, leopard and numerous antelope.

A visit to the ancient San rock paintings in the Gubatsa Hills can be arranged on request. Birding is great all year round, but the prime months to visit are during the rainy season when the migrant birds increase Savute's resident population of over 300 species. For game viewing, the best time is the dry months between May and October, when the Savute channel is the only source of water for miles. During the driest times, the waterholes draw a variety of wildlife to the area.

Main Camp

The main feature of the lodge is the elegant thatch-and-timber building that overlooks the beautiful Savute Channel and houses the lounge, library and cocktail bar. A large viewing deck provides the ideal space to observe the wildlife that flock to the waterhole.

There is a swimming pool on a raised wooden deck and an alfresco dining area. Brunch and dinner are usually served on the viewing deck or by soft candlelight in the dining room. Evenings can be enjoyed, cocktail in hand, around the fireside as you soak up the last rays of the African sun.

Chobe National Park

The Chobe National Park is one of the most popular game reserves in Botswana. Situated in the far north of Botswana, Chobe includes the Savute and Linyanti regions which are known for high concentrations of lion and elephant. However, Chobe is best known for the Chobe River floodplain, where herds upon herds of animals gather in the dry season between June and October. The game reserve is most easily accessed from Kasane, a town just to the east of the park on the banks of the Chobe River, close to the border with Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls.
