More about this accommodation
Sister to the well-established Simbavati River Lodge, Simbavati Hilltop Lodge is set on a scenic ‘kopje’ offering superb views out over the surrounding bushveld and its abundant wildlife inhabitants.
Luxury accommodation with excellent privacy
There are just only eight luxurious pavilion-style safari tents, carefully spaced far enough away from each other to ensure your privacy. Each suite is made up of two individual tents comprising a bedroom and en-suite bathroom. One of the tent sides can be opened up to create an indoor or outdoor private shower experience with breath-taking views of your surrounds. Great care has been taken to use only natural building materials. The tents are on raised decks connected by wooden walkways.
Varied game activities
Hilltop offers Big 5 game activities twice daily: in the early morning and again late afternoon/evening at times when the wildlife are at their most active. On night drives, you’ll have an excellent chance to see the rare and shy nocturnal species – especially the big cats like leopards. There are over 40 mammal species listed as resident in the Timbavati, including the Big 5 as well as endangered species like African wild dogs and cheetah. It’s a bird lover’s paradise with over 360 species listed. Of course, the Timbavati is also home to the famous, rare white lion.
By air: Regular flights connect Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport to Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport, from where it’s another one-hour’s drive to the lodge.
By road: It’s an easy 7-hour drive from Johannesburg to the lodge. Road transfers are also available.
