More About Savute Safari Lodge

Savute Safari Lodge accommodates 24 guests in 12 elegantly furnished thatch and glass chalets. Each chalet features a combined lounge and bedroom area, has en-suite facilities, overhead fan as well as a private viewing deck. The expansive glass sliding doors amplify the beauty of the panoramic views from each chalet. The double sliding doors include an insect screen, and the beds are covered by mosquito netting.

All activities at Savute Safari Lodge are led by professional resident guides. Game drives are conducted on open 4x4 safari vehicles to ensure optimum visibility. From a game-viewing perspective, drives within the Savute area and to the Savute marsh are very rewarding. The second biggest summer zebra migration can be witnessed at Savute as well as diverse species such as elephant, lions, leopards and numerous antelope. A visit to the ancient San rock paintings in the Gubatsa Hills can be arranged on request. Birding is great all year round, but the prime months to visit are during the rainy season where the migrant birds increase Savute's resident population of over 300 species. For game viewing, the best time is the dry months between May and October. During this time, the waterhole in front of camp is a hive of activity as elephants, lions, wild dogs and many other animals compete for access to the water.

The main feature of the lodge is the elegant thatch and timber building that overlooks the dry Savute channel. This stylishly furnished area boasts a lounge, library and cocktail bar. A large viewing deck provides the ideal opportunity to observe the wildlife that flock to the waterhole. There is a swimming pool on a raised wooden teak platform deck and an al fresco dining area. Brunch and dinner are usually served on the viewing deck or by soft candlelight in the dining room. Evenings can be enjoyed, cocktail in hand, around the fireside as you soak up the last rays of the African sun.
