More about this accommodation
Originally two neighbouring Victorian cottages, designed in 1895 by Cape Town Mayor and renowned architect John Parker, Parker Cottage has been combined into one gracious house which offers guests a unique and comfortable stay.
Choice of Accommodation at Parker Cottage
There are two Fantastic Rooms which are the largest and most impressive, with original vintage mantelpieces and working fireplaces, bespoke beds, full en-suite bathrooms with freestanding ball-and-claw baths and separate showers. The four Beautiful Rooms are also en-suite (shower only), and air-conditioned. All rooms are individually appointed. For families with children aged 9 upwards, Parker Cottage also has a Family Suite - a private two-bedroom apartment (sleeping five) with two separate shower rooms and its own private courtyard.
Relaxing at Parker Cottage
The guest house radiates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Its gardens offer sunny spots and quiet, shady corners and a Koi pond. In winter, blazing fires in both guest lounges keep the winter chills at bay. In summer, breakfasts are served on the verandah or under the orange tree.
Breakfasts are leisurely and superb
Breakfast is available as and when you want it. No hurry whatsoever. And take your time over it, too. There are five courses, some of which can be served in your room. The menu is constantly evolving with fresh ideas, tastes and flavours and innovative 'plat du jour' offerings.
At least twice a week, guests are invited to share a glass or two of South Africa's finest at sundown. Not only are these evenings fun and informative about an affordable selection of South African wines, they are also very sociable.
Parker Cottage takes social and environmental responsibility seriously. Socially, they are involved in staff upliftment programmes, buy local, organic and green as far as possible, sponsor education and get involved in local outreach programmes. Environmentally, they hope to prove that a guesthouse should not impact adversely on the earth's resources. They've opted for solar power, grey water systems, waste reduction and recycling and intend to be “off-grid” for electricity, water, water heating and sewage by 2015, and equipped to recycle 90% of their waste.
Our Take on Parker Cottage
Parker Cottage is a quaint combination of old world charm (eccentric touches like old hat boxes atop cupboards) and modern hospitality and comfort. The staff are like a big, happy family and make you feel instantly welcome and at home.
