nThambo Tree Camp is one of the most unique safari accommodation options in the Kruger, providing a truly personal safari experience. This rustic camp is situated in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, forming part of the Greater Kruger Park and sharing unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park. The Klaserie Private Game Reserve is west of the Timbavati, covering 60 000 ha on either side of the Klaserie River and is a wildlife area rich in game like the Big 5, hyena, hippo, giraffe and zebra, as well as less common predators such as wild dogs and cheetahs.

Treehouse-style chalets

This is an eco-friendly camp which captures the traditional bush camp safari experience. Accommodation at nThambo consists of 5 solar-powered 'tree-house' canvas tented-style chalets on raised platforms, with wooden floors, thatched roofs and large roll-down side windows, offering sweeping views of the surrounding bush. The chalets are basic but beautifully and comfortably furnished, with en-suite shower rooms. This is not luxury accommodation, and can best be described as comfortable, rustic treehouse accommodation (access by wooden stairs). Each chalet also has its own private veranda overlooking the surrounding plain and small waterhole in front of the camp as well as the majestic Drakensberg Mountains in the distance.

Outdoor lounge and dining

The communal outdoor lounge and dining area are under thatch, offering the same magnificent views. The campfire in the boma area is perfect for warming you up with coffee before the morning walk or for enjoying evening drinks around the fire. Dinner is a traditional barbeque cooked on the open fire, with guests dining together at a large table where stories of the day's encounters can be shared.

A truly memorable experience

The friendly and very knowledgeable staff at nThambo will ensure a truly memorable experience. All walking safaris are led by professional game rangers who have had intensive specialized training in approaching dangerous game. In addition to walking safaris, game drives are offered, allowing guests to participate in a full spectrum of safari activities. All game drives are conducted in open 4 x 4 Toyota Landcruisers. They have no roof so you get 360-degree views, perfect for wonderful photographic and video opportunities. The afternoon game drives generally leave at 4 pm and stop for sundowners, and then continue into the night drive on your way back to camp, using a powerful spotlight. One of the unique advantages of a small safari camp is that the activities can be tailored to your specific needs.
