More About Leadwood Lodge

Leadwood Lodge is beautifully situated on the wooded banks of the Sand River in the Sabi Sand Reserve. This luxury lodge is the perfect spot for an intimate and romantic safari getaway. The four luxurious air-conditioned suites are well positioned and no one suite overlooks another, ensuring complete privacy and peace. Each suite has an en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower and private deck with a full size plunge pool. The suites all have under-floor heating and floor to ceiling glass windows. This gives one the distinctive feel of being at one with the outdoors, and offers uninterrupted views of the riverine bush from the privacy of your own deck or suite.

The game viewing in the Sabi Sand Reserve is unrivaled. The area is particularly well known for its sightings of leopard. At Leadwood guests can enjoy two game drives per day, in open, off-road safari vehicles accompanied by enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides and trackers. The afternoon game drive lasts until after dark when spotlights are used for possible sightings of the nocturnal wildlife. Bushwalks are available between game drives for those keen on an easy walk close to the lodge. An armed ranger will accompany you on the walk and share with you the many smaller, often overlooked wonders of the bushveld.

Relaxation at Leadwood is spent in secluded areas in and around the lodge or on the open deck overlooking the granite river bank. Appetizing meals are served in the open air dining room, around a fire in the boma (African reed enclosure) or in the privacy of your own suite. Romantic, private dinners can also be organised on the raised tree deck overlooking the Sand River.

The service and attention to detail at Leadwood are impeccable with management and staff going out of their way to turn your stay into an uplifting and memorable experience. At Leadwood Lodge you will experience rewarding game viewing, luxury and serenity. We have no hesitation in recommending Leadwood. You can get there by road from Johannesburg in about 5-6 hours. By air, guests can fly to Nelspruit or to a nearby airstrip in the Sabi Sand Reserve. Please ask us about transport options and costs.

Google static map

Our map of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve shows most of the game lodges situated within the reserve. The Sabi Sand is roughly divided into a northern section and a southern section, divided by the Sand River. One cannot travel across the Sand River, from a lodge in the South to a lodge in the North. You would have to exit the reserve, drive around and go in at another gate. Therefore, it is best not to combine lodges that are in different sections of the reserve on the same trip. You can zoom in and move the map as you wish. Click on any lodge to find out more about that lodge.
