More About Baines Camp
Baines Camp, named after the famous nineteenth century explorer and artist, Thomas Baines, is known as an exclusive and intimate camp with only 5 luxury suites. Each suite is elevated on a wooden platform offering an expansive view over the Boro river and lagoon from the private deck. The suites offer en suite facilities as well as a mobile four poster bed which can be rolled out onto the viewing deck (mosquito net and all). This gives guests the option of a romantic night sleeping underneath the stars. Each room comes equipped with ceiling fans, in-room safe, a fully stocked mini bar and hairdryer.
Baines Camp offers year round rewarding game and bird viewing. Professional resident guides conduct game viewing drives in 4x4 open vehicles in the early morning as well as spotlight night drives, great for spotting nocturnal species. Because the lodge is within a private concession area, game drive vehicles are able to go off-road to get closer to prime animal sightings like lions, leopards and wild dogs. Guests are able to explore the waterways by mokoro (dug-out canoe) or alternatively by motorised boat (subject to water levels). Walking safaris are available as well as the educational elephant interaction experience (available at an additional cost).
The main feature of the lodge houses the dining area, lounge and viewing deck, where guests can enjoy gourmet meals and admire the view over the lagoon. The main lodge is connected to the individual suites by raised wooden walkways. The entire lodge is built in an eco-friendly way, using natural materials and recycled waste material. There is a beautiful swimming pool area, equipped with two thatched salas and comfortable recliners.
Baines camp can only be reached by light aircraft. It is a 10 minute flight from Maun, followed by a 20-minute game drive from the airstrip to the lodge.
