More About Lion Sands Ivory Lodge

Lion Sands Ivory Lodge, overlooking the Sand River, offers a world class luxury safari experience in the prestigious Sabi Sand Reserve. The Lion Sands Private Game Reserve is fenceless, allowing game to traverse freely between Lion Sands and the Kruger National Park. so visitors to this area are almost certain to experience at least some of the Big Five wildlife.

The interiors of the lodge are stylishly decorated in warm serene tones. The effect is sophisticated yet understated. The main lodge comprises a private lounge and bar area, wooden look-out decks, board room, wine cellar, health spa and gymnasium, curio shop, indoor and outdoor dining area.

Guests are accommodated in six spacious, private villas. Each villa has its own private separate living room with fire place, heated pool, en-suite bathroom, inside and outdoor shower. The villas were specifically designed with oversized windows, so whether it is from the comfort of the interior or from your own private viewing deck, you are sure to witness the creatures of the wild at the river below, communing for their daily replenishment. For the more adventurous there is also the option of 'sleeping out' under the African stars in the five star luxury Chalkley tree House!

Included in the tariff are daily game drives and bush walks. The game drives take place in the early morning and early evening. It is during the guided bush walks that visitors are invited into the fascinating world of the smaller wonders of the bush. An experienced guide will impart his knowledge on a wide range of subjects from medicinal plants to the skill of tracking animals.

Dining at Ivory Lodge is never an average affair. For breakfast you will be driven to the river hide or one of the open plains to enjoy a full continental breakfast whilst possibly viewing a peaceful grazer nearby. Sumptuous dinners are savoured at a dry river bed under the stars or on the open African plain. Paraffin lamps and a roaring fire create the perfect atmosphere for romance and adventure after a full day absorbing the African bush and wildlife.

Ivory Lodge has a reputation for world class service. The staff go all out to make your stay idyllic and unique. There is great thoughtfulness and attention to detail. A safari trip to Lions Sands Ivory Lodge will create unique memories of vivid experiences in the South African bush.

There are various ways of getting to the lodge. One can fly from Johannesburg to Nelspruit Airport. From here we can arrange a road transfer to the lodge (2 hours).  We can also arrange a chartered flight form Johannesburg to the Lion Sands airstrip. Road transfers from Johannesburg to the lodge take about 6 hours. Alternatively you may want to chose a self-drive option. We offer car rental at excellent rates.

The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is adjacent to the Kruger National Park. It is a collection of privately owned game reserves which have dropped their fences by mutual agreement. There is also no fence between the Sabi Sand Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park, allowing the free movement of animals through the reserve. It is known as South Africa's top luxury safari destination, and the best place in the world for viewing leopards in the wild.

Our map of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve shows most of the game lodges situated within the reserve. The Sabi Sand is roughly divided into a northern section and a southern section, divided by the Sand River. One cannot travel across the Sand River, from a lodge in the South to a lodge in the North. You would have to exit the reserve, drive around and go in at another gate. Therefore, it is best not to combine lodges that are in different sections of the reserve on the same trip.
